Revisiting the Criminalization of Incitement to Hatred:

We object to any broadly written provision within the Bill that would criminalise the possession and preparation of material deemed to incite hatred. This should be carefully revisited, keeping in mind the potential for misuse as a political weapon and the serious infringement on civil liberties, such as the unwarranted seizure of personal devices like cell phones and laptops by the Gardaí.

Handling Non-Criminal Hate Speech:

We acknowledge that certain forms of speech may cause deep offense, even if they don't cross the threshold into criminality, such as incitement of violence. We encourage tolerance through education with greater free speech, not draconian laws. The goal is to cultivate an environment that encourages tolerance and understanding, rather than silencing potentially offensive expressions.

Protecting Creative Freedom:

Ireland has a rich history of boundary-pushing creativity, exemplified by figures like Oscar Wilde and James Joyce. We want to ensure that this tradition continues, unimpeded by the threat of punitive measures for dissenting or controversial opinions. Artistic freedom and creative expression are vital to the cultural vibrancy of our nation.
